Cleaning out the closet
One day I thought, "This is the day,
to organize and throw away,
those unused items in the house."
"Good luck," I heard, from my dear spouse.

First thing to tackle was old box,
full of those ugly mis-matched socks.
Yes, to the garbage, they all went.
Alas! It barely made a dent.

I got my ladder and climbed up
to the top shelf, then saw my cup.
However did it get up there?
I'd spent time searching everywhere.

The closet would just have to wait.
I knew it would make me irate.
It made no sense to save this stuff.
In fact, I think I've had enough.

My spouse laughed when he saw I quit,
He was right, I have to admit.
So to the attic I will go,
What hidden treasures did I stow?

Of course it all was simply junk,
but then I spied the wooden trunk.
Inside I knew the secrets lie,
letters, with faded ribbon tied.

An old love many years ago,
someone I just could not let go.
But now so many years have flown,
Those memories I've since outgrown.

Think I'll wait for another day,
Oh, I know just what he will say.
"I told you so, it's too much work."
Sometimes he can be such a jerk.
