Jesus is Buried

Scripture: John 19: 31-42

Scripture Verse: “These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled.” John 19: 36a

God’s Attribute: Savior. Jesus Is our Saviour.

Main Truth: Jesus died and was buried.

Story:

“God Is listening…when I pray. Our hands we fold, our heads we bow, so we can talk to God right now. God, thank You for giving us the Bible, Your true word. Thank You God for sending Jesus to die on a cross for us. Help us—Calvin and Alexis and Abby and Miss Sheila—to learn about You and Jesus in today’s story. In Jesus’s Name we pray. Amen.” Make sign for Amen.

Hold up Bible. “Does anyone know what book this is?” Wait for answer. This book is the B.I. B. L. E, the Bible. Can anyone say Bible?” Sing The B. I. B. L. E. “Touch the Bible.” Begin clapping. “The Bible is God’s true word. ‘The Bible is God’s holy book, let’s open it and see where God tells us of His love. God loves you, and He loves me.’”

Show picture of soldiers and of Jesus. “Jesus was dead.” Speak softly, look sad, trace tear track down face. Show picture of Jesus.

Speak sadly. “Jesus’s friends came.” Show picture of two men. “They took Jesus off the cross and carried Him to a garden.” Bring out wooden cross. “Jesus’s friends were careful and gentle with Jesus’s body.”

"Jesus’s friends wanted to protect His body.” Use picture of two men again. “They put Jesus’s body in a place God picked for Jesus. Remember, God Is Jesus’s dad.”

“Jesus died and was buried.”

”God said Jesus would die on a cross. God said where Jesus would be put.” Show excitement. “Everything was happening just as God said!”

"Jesus promised His friends He would come back to life.”

“Jesus’s friends would be so surprised!”

”God would make Jesus alive soon!”

Jesus Is our Saviour.


Questions:
What is this book called? The Bible.
Who died and was buried? Jesus died and was buried.
What did Jesus do when He died on a cross? Jesus saved people from their sins. Jesus is our Saviour.


Verse: To Good Morning God. “These things happened so God’s Word would be made true. John 19:36.” 3X
Songs:

Get out eggs. “Jesus died and was put in the place God picked for Jesus. God picked that place because God loves Jesus.” God Is So Good. Also, God gives us friends, God’s Word is true, God gives us Jesus, Glory Hallelujah.

Swap eggs for ribbons. “God sent Jesus to die to save us from our sin. Now Jesus Is our Saviour!” We Thank You, Loving Father twice.

Swap ribbons for bells. “God would make Jesus alive again! Let’s praise God for making Jesus live again. Praise Him, Praise Him.

Quiet time: Speak softly about Jesus’s burial. Talk about everything happening as God planned. Sing Jesus Loves Me. Er I’m d them Jesus Is our Saviour.

Large muscle: Large blocks, marching, If You’re Happy and You Know It, ball and hoop.
