A short poem of mentorship and passing the baton
Be The Candle

Be the candle burning in spite.
Here, in my darkest night.
Take the air I need not breathe.
I can no longer fight.

Take all my greatest weapons, words.
Wear them on your sleeves.
I have given all I had.
You will have to lead.

The enemy is evermore.
It shrieks loudest in pitch night.
It takes from all it touches.
And no one has that right.

The lies I’ve heard so many times.
Blood drains from my ears.
So bold it shames reality.
This naked lust for fear.

Spout forth truths to set us free.
Smiles cannot be devoured.
These truths must feed the young and old.
The liar breeds the coward.

As my candle flickers out.
Hold your head upright.
Take this air I need not breathe.
For I have seen your light.
