I wrote this poem to apologize to my boss for a mistake I made at work.
I am sorry
For putting you in a
No win situation
I understand the
Weight of my actions
My chest is heavy with
Remorse
Regret
Sorrow
And I wish
I could take it back.

I’m sorry for
All the fear I caused you
If I could go back to that day
I would have just gotten the shift covered
Like I wanted to
Because I had a feeling of impending doom
As strong as a hurricane
Winds howling
Tearing me apart
Black as a funnel cloud
Leaving me in the rain.

Your disappointed face
Still haunts me to this day
Like a ghost
I want you to know
That I didn’t do it on purpose
Sitting in your office was the worst feeling ever
My chest felt as if
Someone shoved a knife in it
The walls collapsing
I couldn’t think
Or speak
All I could do was sit there
Drowning in the tidal wave
Being dragged under
With no hope for rescue.

I’m so sorry for everything I put you through
And hope you can forgive me.
