When one hears a sound
loud enough to pierce the ears,
the body jolts—
memories flood in, loud noises,
things breaking all around,
safes tumbling down the stairs,
plastic forks scattered everywhere,
doors banging.
Hiding under the bed.
These are the memories
one hasn’t yet expressed,
haunting dreams,
terrifying moments etched in the mind.
How could anyone stand idly by,
powerless to end the suffering?
Fears fester within,
gnawing at the flesh
until nothing remains but bone.
One may try to push it away,
yet there's nothing more to say—
the pain consumes the beholder.
That’s what happens when one entrusts their agony
to nothing but the abyss of the brain.
