HOME PLACE

From the beginning I have clearly known
how incredibly fortunate I was
to have come into this abundant world of yours.

And never for one single moment
have I been anything but overwhelmed
and moved to the core of my being
that you have freely and lovingly
welcomed me to share this world with you,
and encouraged me to believe that in your mind and heart
I am truly and essentially yours, your own, your family.

You let me share your space,
you let me partake intimately in your life,
as if there is no separation.

I am forever welcome in your home place,
which you have assured me is forever my home place as well.

You give me your spirit, your wisdom and peace,
you let me hear you sing your songs.

You gather me to your heart and mind, and there is nothing you hold back from me.

So, on this eternal day, with awe and gratitude,
I offer this prayer of profound thankfulness,
and since I'm only beginning to learn your native language,
I can only speak the one I know.

Thank you Grandfather Oak, Grandmother Maple,
Cousins Ash and Cedar,
all the grasses and vines
and mosses and ferns.

Thank you all my Brothers and Sisters
who run and hop
and climb and swim and fly.

I embrace you forever, as you have embraced me.
