A brief introduction of the worlds the main characters come from |
World Building for Tales of the Canterbury Nebula. Planet: Dylax Population: 7 billion. Inhabitants: All are humanoids of the reptilian species. Geography: Dylax is the third planet in its solar system which circles two red suns. The planet has dense jungles with raging rivers, scorching deserts with artic like caves, treacherous mountains with hidden valleys and deep oceans with secrets unknown. Flora/Fauna: Dylex has an abundant diversity of animals and plant life. All resembling Earth in its Triassic period only with creatures about half the size. Social order: Dylaxians live by a class system. The Governing and Diplomatic class share the highest power. The diplomats represent not only their world but the voice of its people as well. The governors make the laws but they must have the approval of the people. Governors retain power until it is proven to the diplomats that they have become corrupt. The same goes for the diplomats only it must be proven to the warrior class who enforce the rule of law. It only takes one misstep for a governor or diplomat to lose their position. The Warrior class defends their world and the laws of their people. They have the power to police the people but if it is proven through their justice system that a warrior had become corrupt, the people have the power to revoke their class status. The science class has the highest authority but no governing power. They are the scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. They have the power to determine a governor, diplomat or warrior is medically unable or unfit to continue in their tasks and force them into retirement. They can declare a building unsafe and have it refitted, rebuilt or torn down. The explorer class are responsible for mapping uncharted corners of Dylex and the galaxy around them. They escort diplomats to new worlds for fist contact protocols and assess the potential threats of worlds considered for first contact. Finally, the worker class makes up all the blue collar workers including farmers, miners, construction crews, etc. Although they have no power as individuals, they hold a lot of power when they move as one. Religion: Dylaxians pray to the Blessed sun, the giver of light and life. They believe that one sun is a reflection of the other so they are one and the same. Planet: Teranor Population: 10 billion Inhabitants: Shapeshifter hive-mind. Separate but think as one. Geography: Teranor is the fourth planet from a mega star. It has lush bioluminescent forests, crystalline mountains, pristine rivers and lakes, wide grassy plains and deep oceans. Floating high over the surface are hundreds of continent sized asteroids. These are all actually living starships of which the inhabitants use as their home. The planet Teranor below is used as a reserve for neutral contacts with other worlds and a source of food for its people. Flora/Fauna: Teranor has a vast diversity of animal and plant life that all vaguely resemble modern Earth, without humans. Social order: Teranors have no social order. they are one mind, all governing each other. They use a shortened class system only to work with and communicate with other worlds. Religion: The concept of religion is foreign to Teranors. They do not understand the need to pray to something that cannot be logically explained. Planet: Purrearth Population: 8 Billion Inhabitants: All are Nekos of the feline species. They share their world with a dog like species similar to werewolves. Geography: Purrearth is the third planet from a yellow sun similar to Earth’s with lush forests, jungles, high mountains, winding rivers, sprawling plains and deep oceans. The Purrs, as they call themselves, work with nature creating homes among the Sequoia sized trees. The Earthians, as the dog like species call themselves, live in deep caves within the high mountains. Flora/Fauna: Purrearth has a wide diversity of animal and plant life which closely resembles those in Earth’s many fairy tales and ancient mythology. Social order: Purrearth is ruled by a hierarchy. The Purrs and Earthians each have their own king or queen. Clashes between the two are very rare. However, they will proudly stand side by side to defend their world. Religion: Both the Purrs and Earthians share the same religion. The Creator- She who made everything out of love for life. She has only one rule: Live in harmony with all of my creations or perish in arrogance. Planet: Digitex Population: 9 billion Inhabitants: All humanoid sentient robots of various designs. Geography: Digitex is a machine world, metal, gears, pistons and hydraulics; much like a giant space station. ‘That’s no moon…’ Flora/Fauna: All animal and plant life are semi sentient machines that resemble all animals of the galactic council. Social order: Digitex is governed by the Mainframe. Mechanicks who were the first to be given sentience and sacrificed their minds to the planet’s sentient computer core as their bodies gave out. All the oldest Mechanicks are added to the mainframe as their bodies give out, making the computer core wiser and more experienced. Religion: The Great Creators. Those who blessed the Mechanicks, as they call themselves, with sentience and cast them out to start a civilization of their own among the stars. To live freely and govern themselves. Planet: Croctna Population: 7 billion Inhabitants: All humanoids of the aviary species. Geography: Croctna is a mysterious gas giant, sixth planet from a yellow sun similar to Earth’s. It’s make up is very similar to Jupiter however, there is a layer within its atmosphere that is strangely similar to Earth. There continent sized islands float on the heavy atmosphere below where the Croctnas live. All of which are similar to islands such as Hawaii. A popular theory is that the islands and atmosphere were made long before recorded history as the planet third from the sun, Gaia, is a lifeless radioactive heap and forbidden to all. Flora/Fauna: Croctna has a large variety of animal and plant life similar to those seen on all of Earth’s islands including Australia. Social Order: Croctna ruled by a hierarchy only the queen rules over the males and king rules over the females. This is to avoid favoritism and ensure all laws are fair to both sexes. Religion: Croctnas believe in the Great Avian. This deity is similar to Earth’s Phoenix. ‘We will burn, live again and be stronger as we rise from the ashes.’ This religion strengthens the popular theory of their ancient past. |
