the Election that led to the war of the world

Sirius Election Leads to War of the Worlds

604

On the planet Sirius, the Dog Star or Vulcan, in the Star Trek universe, the most important election in the modern era took place, unbeknownst to the slumbering human race on the planet Earth. The Sirians had discovered that Humans existed and could become a threat in a few decades as their scientists concluded that the Earth people were on the verge of discovering interstellar flight. Five thousand years ago the Sirians had colonized several planets including the Earth. But the Empire fell and a period of long decline ensured and the colonies were abandoned. The Earth colony, Atlantis was destroyed as part of the war that ended the Empire.

For five thousand years, the Sirens slowly recovered, and by the year 10500 (Sirius time/2010 Earth Time) the Sirius world was faced with the same choice that had destroyed the Empire. The Sirians were a reptilian race divided into two races, the Red and the Green races. The Red race were descendants of the ancient upper classes, the Greens were the hereditary lower classes. The Reds had favored Imperial conquest of nearby planets, the Greens favored trade and peaceful interactions. The Empire had ten planetary systems under their control, all declared themselves independent, the Earth colonies were abandoned after the war and fell apart.

The two camps engaged in a fierce battle. The elections for the parliament and the executive office were all up for grabs. The two candidates were descendants of ancient leaders. Sirians lived on average 300 years. And memories of the past lingered on. The world parliament system had only recently emerged with the gradual recovery of the economy and society.

General Zod promised to restore the Empire and reconquer the abandoned colonies, enslaving the non-Sirian residents for the greater glory of the Sirian Race. Princess Zia, the leader of the Greens proposed establishing a Federation of independent states and warned against the unchecked power sought by General Zod.

People of Sirius. It is time for us to restore our ancient birthright. Time to take back our colonies and restore the Sirian Empire. Five thousand years ago we fought a civil war that destroyed the Empire and our planet. We have slowly rebuilt and we are ready. I pledge to you that if you vote us we will restore the Imperial system and make Sirius great again.

You all know history. You know this is the right thing to do. My opponent, Princess Zia, proclaims that we should set up a Federation of independent star systems, and trade with our ancient colonies. That is typical of the Green Party and its deluded liberal ideas. Everyone knows that there can only to disaster. I call upon patriotic Sirians, both Red and Green to come together and restore the Empire,”

Princess Zia responded in an impassioned speech,

We are calling for a new policy of inclusion, respect, and co-prosperity for all races nearby. General Zod would restore the Empire and crown himself Emperor turning us all into his subjects and enslaving the other races. We cannot and must not go back. Join us in building a better future for all of us including the other races.

General Zod won the election and his Sirius Empire party finished the civil war and won unlimited power, dissolving the parliament restoring the Emperor crowning himself Empire. In a shocking move, he married Princess Zia and promised to restore the Empire but treated the new populations as citizens provided they pledged loyalty to the Empire. The stage was set for the restoration of the Empire, including the conquest of planet Earth.
