New Life for Baker Street

The house was in need of repair since the last occupant became deceased some 10 years earlier. The family had tried to keep its appearance up, but other affairs of life had taken precedent. The son had shown no interest in pursuing his father’s career. That job seemed tedious and boring compared to his business where money could be made quickly depending on what one bought and sold.
So the shades remained drawn and the fireplace cold. The violin case had a few cobwebs and a layer of dust. The robe and the pipe remained in their original space. No one could remove them or put them in storage because of what they meant. The many sounds and discoveries of days gone by were becoming a distant history.
Suddenly one day when one looked up from the street, one saw life in the 2nd floor windows. The shades were raised and the windows opened to remove the stale air. A fire burnt in the enclave that had remained dormant. Dust was being removed and the drapes cleaned. The laboratory had new life as old unused chemicals were removed and new ones obtained. Files were reviewed and refiled into their proper drawer.
Order was being restored to the homestead on Baker Street. The pipe and robe were removed and placed into storage with the proper respect they deserved. The violin case was cleaned, but not put away. It was left on the table to ensure new clients that the place was open for business and the same care would be given to them as in the past.
Jane Alder would see to that. The granddaughter of the old master was reopening Baker Street for the same purpose it had served for years. She had her grandfather’s unique talent of observation and deduction and wanted to continue the tradition. Her father was against this career as he felt it was not suitable for a woman. But Jane had her grandfather’s drive and ambition and being a woman would not prevent her from her dream. Baker Street was reopened for business with new life and a fresh outlook for the future,
