Awesome

“Let’s have a snowball fight,” Uncle Don said, standing in the doorway.

Five-year-old twins Joey and Alex both looked up from the TV they’d been watching since breakfast. Neither looked excited. Uncle Don was watching them for a couple days while their parents were unloading all their belongings into the house they just bought, a couple blocks away. They’d just moved down to Massachusetts from Alaska.

“What?” asked Joey, “What’s a snowball fight?”

Stunned since they formerly lived in Alaska, Don asked, “Are you kidding?”

“No,” came the answer from Joe.

“You make snowballs, you throw them at each other… a snowball fight! How could you not know what a snowbell fight is, you lived in Alaska!”

“Well,’ started Alex, “We didn’t play in the snow. We lived in a tall building in the city and it was too cold to go outside to play in the snow. We had a play room in our building where we could go with our Nanny, Angela, when we wanted to play with other kids. What’s a snowball?”

“A ball made out of snow…” Uncle Don said.

“How do you make a ball out of snow?” Joey asked.

“Come on, I’ll show you. You’ll have to wear your snowpants and jackets and hats and gloves, and boots too!”

“How long does it take to make a snowball? Daniel’s Days is coming on in a few minutes…”

“And what is Daniel’s Days?”

“Well, Daniel has adventures! He lives in the jungle where there isn’t any snow!”

“Do you two know that in a few months there won’t be any snow here?”

“Really?” they both looked up.

‘Yes, but today there is, and we can make snowballs, right now, outside!”

Both boys remembered that day fondly for the rest of their lives. It was awesome.
