Premature Gift Unwrapping

“Can we open our presents now?” the children shouted.

“What? Before Santa comes? Do you think that’s wise. You could still get on the naughty list you know,” Uncle Greg told them.

“Well, they could open one each, the ones in the plain red tissue paper.” Gramma said.

“Yay!” The kids cheered and took the gift Uncle Grant handed them. They were all sure to thank him as they knew Santa was still listening.

“Wow, new PJs and non-slip sock slippers, how did you know?” each one said, as they took turns opening and showing them off.

“I got a book, said the oldest. The card says to read it to all you younger ones.”

“Okay, upstairs and change into your new PJs and socks. Come back down when you’re ready and you can get into your sleeping bags and listen to your story then,” Gramma told them all as she did a shooing motion with your hands.

“If you aren’t asleep soon after the story ends, Santa might have to change his good list,” Aunt Lorraine reminded them.

A minor stampede upstairs and another one back down in about 10 minutes, saw all the children tucked up in their bags waiting for the story. The grownups moved to the living room as the story began.

After about half an hour, Gramma peeked into the family room.

“They’re all sound asleep like angels,” she announced in a whisper.

Within another hour, the adults were all yawning widely.

“Let’s go! We may be grownups, but those kids will be up before we know it. Time to set things up here and get to bed ourselves,” Gramma said while yawning. We went to work. Luckily none of the little ones asked for anything that needed to be put together!
