Lyrics to a song I wrote many years ago for a musical project that never came to be.
This yearning...
It stems from your reluctance to let go
To sever your connection to the past
Refusing to admit that these things never last
You surely know...

That everyone you know and love will wither and decay
Like the petals that have fallen from the branch
Of a dying tree

The ties that bind are gradually rusting away
Leaving behind nothing other than the scraps
Of what used to be

And one day soon these too will vanish
Lost amid the ever swirling sand
Existence is a desert
And on its dunes nothing permanent can stand
