Cherish your moments with your family every chance you get. Tomorrow is never promised.
My Fathers Voice
by Teresa Blakely

It’s January a new year
I cherish these past few years with you.

We were separated for years
Not of our own accord but circumstances out of our control.

Each time I dial the phone
I pray that you answer so I can hear your baritone voice.

I sigh a relief when I hear
You say, Is that you?

We talk and laugh
As we catch up on each other’s lives.

I listen patiently as you ask me
about the kids and how they are doing.

I know one day there won’t be an answer or the questions and I’ll never get to hear your voice.

It will disappear into the world that we take for granted that you’ll always be there for me to listen to.

Your stories that you remember so clearly the day I call. Remembering some of our cherished moments.

I cherish every moment I get to hear your voice now. Knowing that it could be my last.

I love you dearly and always will although you remind me that truly we are strangers to one another.

That’s why I call you to remind you of who I am. Your daughter, your first born, your princess!

I listen for your voice!

I can remember the difference between your tones.
When I made you smile, laugh, mad or even sad.

But, I’ll never forget the day you walked me down the isle with the biggest smile on your face. I have the picture of us.

I listen for your voice!

Please, don’t go just yet
We have so much to catch up on,

I listen for your voice,
As the phone rings!
