Corry finds out his ride-along rookie is something else. 300 words. |
Didn't Know You Had It In You Oswald Corry stood looking at his latest ride-along, Fleur Bunt. All around them were wounded and dead bodies. Bunt looked perfectly relaxed, with a submachine gun held loosely at her side. “Well, Sargent Corry, will I do?” “I can’t believe you did that!” Fleur grinned as she began to dismantle her firearm. When she was finished, she put it in her purse where it had come from. “How fast can you put that thing together?” he said with interest “Three to five,” Fleur told him. “Minutes?” “Seconds. I’ve been working on my speed.” Corry closed his mouth with a snap. “How did you know they were here?” “I heard them. Whispers, shuffling and small sounds like that.” “My hearing is excellent, but I didn’t hear anything.” Fleur shrugged. The backup and cleanup teams had arrived, and she was watching interestedly. “Our, or should I say your work is done here, so let’s head back to the station,” Corry suggested. Fleur nodded reluctantly and followed him back to the cruiser. As they approached it, Fleur pressed a staying hand against Corry’s chest. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Your ride’s not in the same spot,” Fleur mouthed at him. “Maybe they had to move it to park the SWAT team’s rigs, it’s okay!” “Wait,” his ride along said. Seconds later the police car exploded into a fiery ball. The heat and sound wave barely touched the pair. Corry got on his radio, shouting at Dispatch. When he had calmed down, Fleur said: “You still haven’t answered my question.” “What question was that?” Corry asked with the faintest of nervous stutters. “Will I do?” “Only if you’ll agree to be my partner when you get out of the Academy!” Fleur grinned again and said: “You got it!” |
