After transforming into a wolf, I find my way to Miami where I meet someone unexpectedly.
Months after finding myself turned into a large wolf, my ventures eventually led me down to Miami. I spent a week there taking in the sights while at the same time hiding from everyone. Not exactly a common thing to see a wolf anywhere in Florida that wasn't at a zoo or as someone's private pet. So I hung out more on empty beaches and near the Glades. It wasn't until in the middle of my second week there when I happened upon an abandoned lot where a couple Cuban guys were hanging out by a stripped car and an old small warehouse. They looked a lot like either gangsters or someone dealing drugs. Either way, they were up to no good.

I had ducked behind a some weathered crates that were stacked off to the side. Beside me was also a locked shipping container. Peeking around a crate after they started arguing, I kept low to see what would happen. One guy, who looked the oldest, pulled a gun on the skinnier man. The young guy put his hands up, speaking Spanish. Only thing I understand was him repeatedly saying, "No, no." Once he turned to run, gun guy shot him. Immediately the other one went down. Not wanting to hang around, he bolted around the side of the building and then was gone.

Slowly coming out from hiding, I made sure the coast was clear before I hurried over to the scene. The one who was shot was coughing up blood, but then within seconds was dead. I noticed a flip phone in his hand. Thinking I could do a good deed, I managed to open the phone and used a claw to dial 911. Once I heard the call connect and heard the other end say, "911 What's your emergency?" I hauled ass back to my hiding place. Was curious to see this play out. If a CSI team showed up, would it be the same as the show, or do they do things any different?

About 6 minutes went by before a patrol car showed up with a couple of deputies. When the driver noticed the dead man, I heard him radio dispatch, "Get CSI over here. We have a homicide." I got a little excited. I helped his body get discovered and now I get to see what real CSI's do. Another several minutes of waiting with me laying down behind the shipping container, which was a little further than the crates, before they showed up. First of course I knew was the coroner, then later a voice that made me jump up quick, "Hey Alexx, got any ID for me?" I know that voice. I was way too familiar with that southern accent from watching TV. Shaking in fear and excitement, I never moved so slow in my life to see if my brain was tricking me. My eyes went wide when I saw just feet away from me who was standing in the living flesh. Calleigh Duquesne.

I'm not sure how this was possible when she was supposed to be just a character on one of my favorite shows, CSI Miami. A character that I was crushing on badly. Then I had to do a double take when I saw coming from between a squad car and a CSI Hummer another woman walk into my sight. One of the other characters I loved so much, Natalia Boa Vista. I couldn't believe this. It's like my dreams, but only everything I wanted has become a reality. I didn't want to leave there, so I just chilled out where I was until after Alexx the coroner took the body back to her morgue and all patrols left.

Heart in my throat, I made my way from behind the crates until half my body would be visible from where they were. I wanted to go to them, but being a wolf, I don't think it would go over so well. They would get scared and possibly try to shoot me. So I just stood there, watching them take pictures, collect evidence from around where the body was, walk around looking for clues. Calleigh was facing my direction when she looked up. The moment her eyes met mine, she took a step back and put her hand over the gun in her holster, "Natalia, no sudden movements." "What, why," she asked in reply, but understood as soon as she saw me. "That's a big wolf," said Natalia. Taking a couple steps forward until I was completely out from behind my husband spot, I put my ears slightly back and whined while giving my tail a little wag.

Calleigh moved her hand away from her holster, "I wonder what it wants. Doesn't look like it's threatening." Natalia questioned her thought, "Are you sure you want to trust it? I mean it could attack without warning." "I don't know. Just isn't acting right. What wolf would just stand there and watch us like that?" Taking her gloves off, Calleigh squatted down and actually held out her hand, "Come here, it's okay." With shaky legs, I took my time walking over to her, lowering my ears the closer I got to her hand. My heart never beat so fast. Here was a crush of mine that started to fill up my entire vision, and she had no idea I was still human on the inside.

When I was only about a foot from her fingers, I stopped, legs still shaking in fear. Calleigh took a deep breath and closed the gap. My body flinched the moment her hand touched my face, "There you go, it's not so bad." Her words met my ears at the same time her hand did as it glided back along my head. My shivering slowed down. Natalia was hesitant, but I noticed that she, too, had removed her gloves and placed her hand on me, petting my back. This was when I was able to see how big I really was in comparison to a human. My head, if held at an attention stance, was just barely below Natalia's chest. My back was at least around her waist, making her not even have to bend over to touch me. And with her standing on the side of me, she had a better vantage point of my lower regions, "Hey girl, what are doing way out here?" I looked up at her, back at Calleigh who was still eye level with me, then behind them. I nodded in an upward motion toward the crime scene. Both of them turned to look at it and back at me. Calleigh asked, "You saw it happen?" I nodded.

Calleigh stood up with the same confused expression Natalia had. Natalia said to Calleigh, "Is she answering our questions with nods?" "I believe she is. Its like she understands us." "But who called 911?" I huffed at them, causing both to look my way. Since I knew now they were less afraid of me, I walked over and nudged my nose to Calleigh's phone that was clipped to her belt. She unclipped it and held it up with a questioned look. When I pawed the ground one time, I think she understood. Opening it up, she laid it on the ground. I took one claw and dialed the numbers 911, but didn't hit send. Backing a couple steps away, I sat down and watched Calleigh pick it up. Surprise was in her eyes when she realized what I was saying, "You called 911." I nodded again.

Amazement was on both of their faces when Natalia said, "Okay, definitely not normal wolf behavior. Or even a dog for that matter." Calleigh's bright, green eyes looked deep into mine, seemingly straight through me, "She's thinking like a person." They looked at each other, then Calleigh continued asking me questions to see how I would respond, "Can you tell us what happened?" With a nod, I walked between them and over to where the one guy fell dead while listening to the clicks of a pair of heels following from behind. They stopped when I did right next to a dried pool of blood.

Turning toward them, I held up a paw for them to wait for a demonstration. First I walked to where the dead guy was and set down. One more paw up, trying to use only one claw as a finger to somewhat say, hold up. But as I did, Natalia guessed right, "The victim was standing there." A quick nod from me before I moved over to where I saw the other guy. I sniffed to where I remembered, then walked over to Calleigh. All this time my heart was close to giving out with as much fear and excitement I'm having right now. Exciting to be involved, but still scared to death to know I'm interacting with both Calleigh and Natalia. Fictional characters on a made up TV show. Characters I would have given anything to see alive. This was real.

Walking next to Calleigh, I gave a nudge to get her to walk to where I wanted her to. Without much hesitation, she let me guide her to the spot of the shooter. Circling back in front of her, I used my nose to raise Calleigh's arm up slightly so that it was outstretched at a somewhat sloped angle. I think she knew what I was trying to say. "The shooter was right here when he shot the victim," Calleigh said, making her hand into the shape of a gun. I nodded again. Stepping back, both her and Natalia began searching the ground. I, too, started helping, but used my nose to find what they were looking for. When I found it, I blew my breath to blow the dirt away that has already settled on it. Calleigh smiled, "There it is. Good job." She used tweezers and placed it into a little tan evidence envelope for ballistics.

Calleigh gave me a scratch on the head just as Natalia asked, "So what happened to the shooter?" I started walking in the direction he ran but stopped to look back. She used that to answer her question, "Oh. I guess he went this way." They followed me a little ways, passing a dumpster and into a larger area, like what used to be a parking lot. That's where I stopped. Looking down, there were clear tire treads from a vehicle speeding away. Natalia took several pictures, "Looks like it could be from a large car or small SUV." "We'll run comparisons back at the lab." As we passed back by the dumpster, I made a sudden turn and ended up jumping in. As I rustled though the garbage, I could hear them asking each other what I was doing. But once I found my prize, I popped my head back up top to see their eyebrows raised. I was holding a gun in my mouth from the barrel. I knew not to touch the handle since they will want to look for prints.

After jumping out, Calleigh put a glove on, then reached down and took it from me, "Oh wow. You found what may be the murder weapon. I think I just might keep you." That caused my tail to wag as a shiver ran down my spine at the thought of being owned by Calleigh. Turning the gun around, she gave it's name, "It's a 38 caliber, same as the bullet taken from the victim." Natalia looked at it, "If we can get prints on the gun and a match to that bullet," "Then we have our killer," Calleigh finished for her. With the newly collected evidence that I helped them find, I followed them back to Calleigh's Hummer. But as we were almost halfway there, a white van shows up. Natalia stops dead in her tracks. I stayed right behind her, peeking around her side just enough to see who it was but stay away from view. It was Nick, her ex who was physically abusive to her and actually had a restraining order against him.

I could hear Natalia's breathing quicken and her pulse started racing. I could tell she was scared. Nick got out and began approaching. She called out to him, "Nick, you shouldn't be here yet. It's still a crime scene." "Well how long is it going to take? I have a job to do as crime scene clean up." The moment she took one step back, all my own fears went away. Suddenly I was walking out from behind Natalia, eyes glaring at Nick. He quickly stopped walking when he saw me. I continued moving around until I was directly in front of her before I sat down, letting out a low growl. He waited half a minute and tried approaching again. That's when I showed him my teeth, allowing my growl to get a little louder.

To my amazement, neither Natalia or Calleigh tried to get me to stop. They just stood behind me waiting to see what he does. Nick definitely wasn't happy at all. He took a couple steps backwards saying, "Nat, you better control your animals and make that thing move." From what I couldn't see, Natalia had crossed her arms before replying to his demands, "She's not mine. I can't make her do anything." I laughed on the inside. Nick's brow frowed, then reluctantly turned and left. After he was out of sight, Natalia walked around until she was facing me and knelt down to my eye level. With a smile, she actually reached out and hugged me. Calleigh had a sense of happiness in her voice when she said, "Looks like she's yours now." Pulling back, Natalia put her right hand on my cheek, "Thank you." Without even thinking, I turned my mouth up with a little lick on her forehead as my way of giving her a kiss. She simply allowed me to do that. Feeling another hand on my back, I looked over to see Calleigh smiling. I reacted by rotating around to get a hug from her. Just like before, she lowered her face a little so I could lick her forehead too. If this isn't heaven, then I don't want to know what is because nothing could be better than this.

After they placed everything into the back of the hummer, they both looked at me. Calleigh was hesitant, "We can't leave her out here, but we can't take her either." Thinking long, she decided to pull out her phone and make a call. My heart lept when I heard her say another familiar name, "Horatio, hey we have evidence found at the crime scene. We'll be bringing them back to the lab. But we aren't the ones who found them.......You're not gonna believe it, but an actual wolf found everything, including a gun in the dumpster and where he got away. She found the tread marks........It's odd. I feel that she's thinking like a human instead of an animal. Answers our questions with nods and everything.....Sure I'll bring her too. See you there."

My eyes grew in fear. Horatio Caine, the supervisor for CSI Miami. If he's after you, there's literally no hiding from him. I whined and groaned at the same time, causing Calleigh to look at me in worry and then calm, "It's okay. You don't have to be afraid of him. He's our boss and a really good guy." Opening the back door behind the driver seat, she motioned with one hand, "Shall we?" With a gulp, I hopped up into the back seat with ease. My body jumped at the sound of Calleigh closing the door. Suddenly I felt trapped. Even though I knew I was in a very safe place with very safe people that I loved a lot, the door auto-lock and in closed space for a long period had my anxiety through the roof.

The whole ride to the crime lab, they talked about me.

Calleigh: I wonder what her name is.
Natalia: Does she even have a name? We could come up with one.
Calleigh: Yeah, we could if she doesn't have one.
Natalia: How would we find out?
Calleigh: I don't know. Ask her?
Natalia: She can't tell us if she can't talk.
Calleigh: Maybe she can type. She dialed 911. Worth a try.
Natalia: Yeah maybe. Hey we can get a vest for her and she can help us on assignments.
Calleigh: That's not up to us, but that would make finding evidence and the bad guys much easier.
Natalia: We would close cases faster with her help. But where would se stay?
Calleigh: She can stay with me. I've been wanting a dog anyway, even if she can't be allowed to help. It'd be a nice change for me.

My mind raced. They were having a conversation about me as if I wasn't even there. But I was, just unable to physically say anything. That will bother me not being able to communicate with words. Maybe sticking around, I'll get comfortable enough to somehow tell them about who I really am and they'll figure something out. Here's hoping Horatio let's me stay.
