This is a story about 2 people who find love on a cruise ship. |
Tiffany had anticipated going on this cruise for over a year now. She was finally on board the crew ship and it had just pulled away from the shore. She had come out to the upper deck to get some fresh air and to see the view of the Atlantic Ocean they were sailing on. She went over to the rail and grasp it tightly taking in the smell of the salty ocean air, feeling the breeze brush against her skin and the sun's warmth upon her face, looking out at the waves as they moved up and down and to and frow. Occasionally, a fish could be seen coming to the surface of the water for air and a few seagulls flying near the shore in the distance. She watched as other boats sailed nearby and allowed her thoughts to drift where they would. The shore grew smaller and more distant as they made their way into the sea. Tiffany was lost deep within her own thoughts when a man's voice startled her. "Hello! Have we met before? You look familiar to me for some reason." A man dressed in a business suit approached her. "No! I don't think we have. My name is Tiffany. What's yours?" She said after she recomposed herself. "My name is Eddie, and I didn't mean to startle you." The man told her. "Oh! It's quite alright. I was just daydreaming." "Are you sure we haven't met before? You really do look familiar to me." Eddie said. "I am sorry, but I don't recognize you. Perhaps, you have met my sister, Jennifer. We have often been told we look a lot alike." Tiffany said casually. Eddie studied her for a moment. The sun seemed to radiate through her auburn, long, curly hair. She was wearing a denim baseball cap decorated with embroidered roses in front. She had on a pink Atlanta T-shirt, jean medium-length shorts, and white crew socks with white running shoes. She was petite with a thin waist. Her skin was light. He answered her and said, "I guess that's possible. It's nice to make your acquaintance. Are you traveling alone?" She wondered if she should answer this question for safety reasons. "It's nice to meet you too." She replied. Then she lied, "I am traveling with my uncle. How about you?" "Oh, I am on a business trip with my company. We are making plans for the future of the business while celebrating its current success." He answered. "That sounds interesting." she said then stood in a moment of awkward silence. He was quite handsome she thought, but she didn't know him from Adam. To break the silence, she said, "Well, I really should go find my uncle. It was nice meeting you." She held out her hand for a shake to which he obliged, and she walked away. He waved as she left. Later, Tiffany had finished dinner and was at the soda machine to get a drink. She was looking over the options. She could hear the quiet chatter of the other passengers. Then she noticed three men approaching. One of them was Eddie who she had met earlier. "I see you got thirsty too." He smiled. "Did you and your uncle get settled into your room okay?" Then he looked over at the men with him. "I met this young lady earlier today shortly after we left land. Tiffany? If I remember correctly?" "Yes, you remembered right. Who do you have with you, Eddie?" "These are my business partners, Tom and Jim." They all shook hands and exchanged greetings and well wishes. Tiffany had finished getting her drink and excused herself. The following morning, she went to the ship's gym to work out. She did all of her stretching exercises to warm up and headed for the treadmill. As she was running, Eddie entered the gym. At first it didn't seem that he noticed her. She watched him to see what he was going to do. He went to the free weights and began what looked like a routine. She thought he seems to take care of himself. His build wasn't that of an extreme body builder, but he had some solid muscles she noticed. He appeared to have a nice tan and not an ounce of fat. His hair was jet black and his eyes were brown. He looked like he was in his thirties. He was shirtless and wearing a pair of gym shorts and had his towel and water bottle sitting to the side. He glanced in her direction. Their eyes met, and this is when she felt the butterflies. Her legs all of a sudden felt week. She stopped the treadmill as he began to walk over to her. Tiffany caught her breath as he approached her, her eyes never left his. "Hi" she managed to blurt out when he got to her. "Hi! Are you okay? You seem a little out of breath." Eddie said. "Fate keeps making us cross paths. Would you like to come sit down with me and sip some water?" "Yes!" She gasped. He helped her to a chair. She didn't know what had come over her. Here was this complete stranger totally taking her breath away. After a moment, she managed to say, "Thank you. This is kind of you. I guess I was working out a little too hard." "Are you okay now?" He asked. "I think so. Do you always work out too?" She said as she wiped the sweat from her face with her towel. He sat down next to her and said, "I come to the gym five days a week. Today is my day to work on my arms. I noticed you were watching me." Tiffany blushed, "I liked what I saw. You look good. I work out five days a week too. I always run two miles per day on the treadmill." He laughed a little, "You don't look bad yourself either." She giggled. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to stare." "Oh! It's quite alright. I did a little looking too." He smiled. "Ok" She looked at him quizzically. "I'm glad we got that awkwardness out of the way. You never told me what kind of business you have." "I am in the health store industry. My partners and I have a small chain of Health food stores in Canada. I live in New York though. You live in the United States too, don't you?" "Yes, I live in Georgia, but I'm originally from New Jersey. I'm an elementary school teacher and I teach second grade." She answered. "What brings you on this cruise with your uncle?" He asked. "We are just taking a little vacation. I needed a break from the routine back at home." She watched him carefully, not fully trusting him or herself. "Do you have a husband or a boyfriend?" Eddie enquired. Tiffany blushed. "No, I don't." "Girlfriend or wife?" He asked half-jokingly. She giggled. "No, I'm single." He looked deep into her eyes. "Could you imagine yourself dating a guy like me?" Smiling, she answered. "Maybe. We just met. I barely know you." "I just want to tell you that you are beautiful. I have another meeting I need to get ready for. However, if you would like to get to know me better, meet me in the dining room at six." He told her and then briskly walked away. She realized she was trembling. She took a moment to steady herself and went to her room to prepare herself for what was next. Six O' clock came. Six O' five. Six ten. Six fifteen. Just as she was about to give up, Eddie came rushing into greet her, "Tiffany! Good! You are here! I am so sorry I'm running late. I got stuck on an important conference call. You haven't waited here too long, have you?" "I was about to give up on you. I've been here twenty-five minutes. Shall we eat? I'm starving!" Eddie put out his right arm to escort her to their table. He had already ordered their meal ahead of time. "I hope you don't mind I pre-ordered our dinner. I wanted to have a special meal with you to make it memorable. Let's go over to this table that I had reserved for us in the corner. It will provide a little privacy." "Wow! Thank you, but you shouldn't have gone to all this trouble." "I want to treat you like a princess. Did this surprise you?" "Yes! I'm pleasantly surprised." Tiffany and Eddie enjoyed their dinner of Roasted Duck with cottage potatoes and salad. They enjoyed a glass of wine after the meal as they talked and learned more about one another. Eddie had his arm around her shoulder. They were close. Tiffany didn't know if it was the wine or the delicious food, but she was letting down her guard. As he talked to her, he could feel her relaxing against him. They were very aware of their bodies brushing against each other. Eddie leaned in and kissed her on the lips. She looked surprised. "Am I moving to fast?" He asked. "No. Kiss me again!" She whispered. Notes ▼ |
