Brother brings my coffee cup,
Sister helps me make the bed
Mother helps me toast my bread.
I take a walk and take the train-
It’s all a matter of routine.
I carry Red Bull on my back
To make up for the pep I lack.
Brother has gone back to bed,
Sister goes to the gym instead
Mother has been long retired
I work for the sake of not being fired.
I wished to start a business once
It hasn’t been all that long since
And I could get excited then
While learning a new skill or ten.
It’s nine at night and the town winds down,
And all the anxious workers yawn,
Brother, sister, mother and I
Play cards and eat some blueberry pie.
*This poem was written for The Writer’s Cramp, a daily contest. Today’s prompt was to write something with the title, “It is five in the morning, the town wakes up.” I could not fit all of this in the title block due to the 40 character title limit.
