The Writer's Cramp - 2-28-25 - W/C 436

Tiina the tooth fairy hopped on tiny tips of toes across Mary’s bedroom. All was dark. All was quiet. Even the cat at the foot of Mary’s bed was asleep.

Suddenly she stepped on not one, not two, but twenty little pointy hair clips.

“Yikkkkkkeeeesssss!” An earsplitting scream sent the cat under the bed as Mary rolled around, then sat up.

“Hello?”

Tiny Tiina tiptoed around the clips, then flew onto Mary’s bed. Her gossamer wings folded behind her as she sat beside Mary.

“Hello!”

“Who are you?”

Tiina gently touched Mary’s arm. “I am the tooth fairy.”

“Oh, I left you a present. Momma said you’d leave me something for my tooth. It’s under my pillow.” Mary lifted her pillow to show Tiny Tiina the tiny tooth.

“I will do that, Mary. But first you need to go back to sleep. Tooth fairies cannot leave presents if the tooth owner is awake. Rules you know.”

Mary laid back down. “Oh, I know all about rules.” She yawned and soon was asleep.

Tiny Tiina slipped a tiny hand under Mary’s pillow. She grabbed the tiny tooth so she could put it in her tooth bag, the red velvet bag hanging from her belt.

Jax the cat jumped onto the bed. She snuggled up against Mary and then she too was fast asleep.

Tiny Tiina smiled and thought, good old tooth fairy sleeping dust. Works every time.

She slipped a note for Mary under her pillow, then spread her wings and flew out of the room.

In the morning, Mary ran down to breakfast.

“Momma, momma! I got a visit from the tooth fairy! She left me a present!”

Mary showed her mother the note with her gift from Tiny Tiina, the tooth fairy.

“Merry Mary
Oh so Very
Sweet and kind.
May this February
Keep you safe and find…”

“What does that mean?”

“I think it says you have to find something. It doesn’t seem to be finished, Mary. Who left this?”

“Tiny Tiina the tooth fairy. I saw her last night. She beautiful! And tiny, just like her name. With tiny hands and tiny feet and tiny wings and…

“Okay…But, did she leave anything else?”

“OH, just this little thing. I found it on my dresser. A nice shiny rock.”

Momma took the stone from Mary. Tears ran down her face.

“Do you want me to put the shiny rock out in the driveway, Momma?”

“No, no. I’ll trade you. A dollar for the rock. Then I think we need to go visit a special place to see what kind of rock this is.”
