         Sam Jones worked as a paranormal researcher for the Cosmos Institute in Berkeley California, as a consultant and taught astrophysics at the University of California, (CAL). One day, while studying the so-called Phoenix Lights, he noticed something strange about the phenomenon. He became convinced that he was looking at the tail end of a naturally occurring wormhole.

          He dismissed speculation that it was an alien spaceship, although he conceded that aliens could potentially take advantage of it. He calculated that the other end was Sirius, which was ten light-years away, and that if a ship were to go through the wormhole, it would arrive in
the Sirius system instantly. Sirius had an Earth-like planet worth exploring.

         He predicted that the wormhole would return in 2007, as it appeared every ten years. He convinced NASA to send a human crew to investigate the phenomenon and travel through to the other end. He noted that they would have a two-month window before the wormhole closed, potentially stranding them on the other side for ten years. He volunteered to lead the mission, and NASA added the project to its agenda. He spent several years studying all existing knowledge about wormholes, along with the endless science-fiction speculation about them that AI could find for him using Musk’s new Grok AI engine and ChatGPT.

         Finally, the day arrived. The crew approached the wormhole and went through, arriving almost instantly in the Sirius system, where they were arrested by the Sirius Secret Service as enemy aliens. They eventually managed to communicate with the Sirians and brought back a few scientists during the open window. The Sirians knew how to manipulate the wormhole to keep it open, leading to trade and other relationships between the Sirian Empire and Earth. Sam was appointed the first UN and US ambassador to the Sirius Empire and returned to live there permanently.

         The Sirians were reptilian creatures divided into red and green races. Their ancestors had settled in Atlantis and Lemuria but abandoned both colonies. They had been monitoring the earth ever since.



The evening of March 13, 1997, saw the so-called Phoenix Lights -- a number of erratically moving lights in the sky that led to speculation about aliens and UFOs. These lights were later explained (or excused?) as part of Operation Snowbird: an air force pilot training program based in Tuscon.

For tomorrow, write a poem or story about someone who discovers that this explanation is false, and discovers what the real cause of the lights was.

Of course, writing that the lights were UFOs is the easy answer. So, additionally, have this cause be something other than alien space ships.
