The Door

Eight line poem

What lies behind that shuttered door,
Hidden and barred? Do secrets lie
From times gone by? Shall I explore?
Or would that be a little unwise?

Those rotting planks could surely tell a story
Of a thousand footsteps on its threshold,
Hiding deeds, nefarious and gory,
Holding secrets never to be told.
