A wake-up call for young birds

Beware Young Hummingbirds©
By Artemis Quill 4/6/2025
“No problems, overwhelmed with blessings”

Young Henry Hummingbird, a blur of green and grace,
Danced in the sun, a smile upon his face.
The honeysuckle dripped, a sugary delight,
As blooms of trumpet vine blazed, bold and bright.

He’d found a paradise, a floral, fragrant scene,
But something else had happened, sharp and keen.
He’d met sweet Holly, with iridescent sheen,
A new arrival, the fairest he had seen.

They flitted close, a buzzing, vibrant pair,
Sharing nectar, suspended in the air.
A gentle chase, a flutter and a dart,
A burgeoning connection, warming Henry’s heart.

Oblivious they were, lost in their sweet play,
To shadows lengthening, ending the bright day.
For lurking low, amongst the fragrant thyme,
Roscoe the cat, was plotting out a crime.

With emerald eyes, he watched their carefree flight,
A silent hunter, bathed in fading light.
His sleek black fur, a shadow on the ground,
He crept and crawled, without a single sound.

Mischief danced within his feline gaze,
A feathered feast, to brighten up his days.
He gathered power, coiled and ready now,
Unknowing of the love, upon the flowering bough.
