You Mean I Missed It?

“What happened here?” asked Marie

“What it is ain’t exactly clear,” Dillon said dazedly

“There’s a man with a gun over there,” Marie pointed out.

“Tellin’ me I got to beware,” Dillon continued.

“Are you high?”

“I did feel something hit me in my shoulder blade.”

“Stay with me Dill,” Marie said as she tried to check his pulse.

“We can do that Officer,” said a voice from behind her. She turned with frantic eyes to find a couple of EMTs with a stretcher.

“He may be high, but I’m not sure on what,” Marie told them as she stepped to the side.

Looking around, she saw that people were down all around her. The man with the gun was masked and standing at the ready. Marie went over to him, her hand on her gun.

“Officer Marie Orton, and you are?” she asked.

He stared at her without expression. Marie pulled out her cuffs and proceeded to handcuff him. Turning in a lightning move, he soon has his submachine gun aimed at her heart.

“I don’t think so mister,” she said more calmly than she felt. With a swift pull and twist move she disarmed him and called for backup.

She watched them take him away, then turned to see who else she could help. After what seemed like hours, Marie went to the hospital to check on Dillon.

“How ya doin’ bud?” she drawled at him from doorway to his room.

“What are you doing here?”

“I tried to help you at a scene. You were out of it, kept spouting 60’s song lyrics.”

“It’s all a blur! “

“I think you were drugged by a dart.”

“Oh yeah? Sorry I missed it.”

Marie left soon after and laughed all the way home.
