Darien and Gareth finds something amazing in the attic. 300 word |
Newly Discovered “I found it.” Darien said. “Where?” asked Gareth “In the attic. It was in a trunk with other stuff.” “Let’s see it!” Darien pulled a book out of his pocket. Gareth snatched it away from him and riffled the pages. “We can’t read this! How do you know it’s genuine.” “See the initials on the front?” “ET” You’d think it would be BB.” “Blackbeard’s real name was Edward Teach,” Gareth said. Darien squinted at the writing. “Can you read it?” “They wrote funny in those days, so no.” “Let’s get Grandma’s lighted magnifier, that’ll help.” “Good idea, she’s very old, so she probably wrote like that herself.” The two boys went to their grandma’s room and tapped politely on the door. “Come in boys!” they heard. “How did you know it was us, Grandma?” Darien asked. “You two are the only ones who knock politely. Everybody just barges in.” “Look what we found!” the two said in one voice. “Well, would you look at that! Is that the initials ET?” she asked. “Yep, but we can’t read it.” “No doubt, it looks very old. He was an ancestor of ours.” “Yes, we know!” “We thought you could use your lighted magnifier to help us read it.” “A wonderful idea, come up beside me and let’s have a look.” Darien and Gareth climbed up beside her and snuggled in. Turning on her magnifier, Grandma began to read. The diary thrilling, chilling and exciting. When she finished, Grandma closed the book. “I sure had fun writing this when I was your age.” “What, Blackbeard didn’t write it?” the boys chorused. “He might have, since he could both read and write, but it was the younger me who did it as a history project. Sorry to disappoint you.” “Read it again!” |
