No beta we die like men

Wings.

Beautiful, broad wings, with feathers of a soft darkness that wove wind over and in to cut through sky.
They were like nothing I had seen before. You would've been speechless- I was, but I had to say something when I caught his eyes.
"Name?"
He'd glance over, gliding through those imposing trees with ease. What kind of fool dances through the air at such speeds like that?
"Rook!"

I nodded. I think I did, at the least, but my mind was somewhere else.
Crow avians were truly something, weren't they?

We started setting up a new area for the sanctuary today. It's higher than the others, but we made the new areas more comfortable so the avians wouldn't get lazy and forget to fly. As if they could, something in them despised having two feet on the ground.

I really mean it when I say I truly adore them. Their anatomy is spectacular! Layered spines, modified shoulder blades- the muscles around the bases of their wings grow over the dorsi and lower section of the trapezius- I can't even apologize, I'm so enamored by by them. Did you know their secondary spine is in place of our primary? Its secondary because its more hollow than their primary! Two spines! Two!

Rook stopped by for an assessment. He allowed me to touch his wings and examine his muscular structure(truly magnificent!) and explained his back soreness. Of course he's sore- there's no way for them to relieve tension from their backs. We have to finish up the new wing soon, we have to set up the chiropractor offices as soon as we can. I hate to see him, to see them ache.

He's back! He's so beautiful. His cognitive assessment is today, he passed with flying colors. Or, absence of colors. He's truly smarter than the rest of them, of us. For the most part their sentences are clear, concise and understandable but by god, he is a cut above the rest.
