Mother Nature's curveball |
Rain for days? That’s familiar. Winds that knock over trees? Yeah, that’s not unusual either. Hailstones that pierce roofs and windows; Sleet and snow that stacks in feet, not inches; Yeah, none of that is new. But this earth quaking? My feet coming out from under me while I’m walking down the street? Buildings swaying, bridges bouncing, car alarms going off everywhere? Nah, man, I didn’t sign up for this! And just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, Mother Nature threw a curve ball. The rain that fell from the skies Wasn’t the cold wet drizzle I’d known all my life, But was scalding hot, Leaving first and sometimes even second degree burns on the skin. The wind that blew through the trees Scorched the leaves, spreading fires throughout. Hailstones were no longer made of ice, but fire; Sleet and snow were now ash That irritated my eyes, clogged car engines, and killed the local vegetation. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse …. …. …. …. Well, it was the end of the world as I knew it. ~25 lines~ written for:
