The Nature Of Music

Kibby picked up a remote and clicked it. Arnold’s eyes were glued to the screen.

“This is what I found in my travels yesterday.”

The screen filled with a field of yellow flowers.

“A seemingly ordinary group of flowers, right?”

Arnold nodded as he continued to stare.

“Watch this!”

An especially tall sunflower, for that was what they were, raised one of its leaves. On a downbeat he conducted the other flowers. Some tapped on their stems to make a flute-like sound.

Joining in were others who patted their faces for the sound of drums. Using spider webs that were on others, they got violins and other stringed instruments.

The music they made was ethereal and unearthly. It kept Arnold fascinated. He began to find the rhythm and started to sing like an angel.

Kibby was more taken with him than what he had recorded. Soon the video Kibby had shot ended abruptly.

“Play it again, Kib” Arnold begged. So, he did.

He ended up giving a copy of the tape to Arnold and heading home. He’d already titled it ‘the sunflower band’ and knew he would put it on the internet for his followers.

“It’s the first new content I’ve been able to find in a while. It should go over pretty big!” he told himself happily.

By the time he checked his site the next day, he was astonished. Many Ukrainians had joined his followers! They were overjoyed to see a video that gave them so much hope.

But they believed it was AI from start to finish. Regardless, they were thrilled with it. Since he never used AI for content, he tried to explain it was real, but no one believed him.

“All people will believe what they want to believe, I guess.”
