What if
she stopped smiling when
her parents left her feeling 'not worth it'.
What if she said,
"That hurts"

What if
she stopped smiling when
they left her feeling like ,
'you-don't-know-anything' kind of girl.
What if she said,
"Tell me what I need to know."

What if
she stopped smiling when
her brothers make her feel like she doesn't know anything ,
doesn't understand anything.
What if she said
"Then fill me in. Explain."

What if
she stopped smiling when
she felt betrayed.
What if she said,
"I feel betrayed when you . . . . "

What if
she stopped smiling
when she felt cheated.
What if she said,
'I feel cheated when you....."

What if
she stopped smiling
when she felt surrounded by liars.
What if she said,
"Be honest with me".

What if
she stopped smiling
when she felt unloved
What if she said,
"I feel unloved when . . . . "

What if
the smile faded and
the tears slipped out,
and she let her parents and brothers know,
she no longer would bear it.

What if
she told them
her thoughts and
showed her true feelings.
What if . . .
