poem: spending a day and night away from the mundane, finding time to play and relax |
"Good Morning, Day" Good morning, Day Let us find time to imagine, pretend, and play No more rote chores for a change, of those boring paces We shall then put a smile on our weary faces Stroll among a grandmother's garden of irises and lavender scent Fall back in time when our childhood images were pleasantly spent Skip on sidewalks to popular songs Jump rope and hoola hoop to where young memories belong Twist and shout to music blaring from garage bands Find a friend, hug, kiss, and hold hands Ride long ways on a bike Or choose to take a wooded hike Nap if we please Feel and smell the sweet summer breeze Find a green pallet under a wide canopy Of a large standing magnolia tree Lie down on a grassy bed Decorated with clover; blooms both white and red Be mindful as we tease The fluttering of working bees Dear delightful Daytime, We share gratitude for your gifts offered in kind We shall now embark Upon an evening visit into Night's purple dark Owl hoots, Dog howls, Cricket sings Moon leaves her mirrored say on Lake's rippled rings Relax by a campfire with sprinkled sparks Speaking our stories to the galaxy of stars Say goodnight to the fairies and wooded sprites All a hush now, to dream of peaceful meadows and rainbow sights May we have a restful sleep For tomorrow, these memories we will keep 32 line count |
