Vickie moves into a new neighborhood and meets a whole community of writers,

Chapter 1
Janice passed the movers as they drove away from Vickie's door. She continued up to the door and knocked.

“Coming,” Vickie called.

“Hey,” Vickie smiled as she stepped aside and let Janice come in.

“I just saw the moving truck pull away and came by to see how you were.”

“Overwhelmed. The movers just put everything in here. Thank goodness I have the room names on the boxes. I never realized just how much I had until just now”

“You never do. It looks like we will be busy for a while.” Janice smiled looking around with her hands on her hips.

“At least most of the day.”Vickie sighed.

“That’s okay, I have help coming.” Janice smiled.

“What, who?” And it was just then that someone knocked on the door.

Janice just smiled and opened the door to welcome two women

“Good morning ladies,” Sam said as she and her friend Lea walked up with coffee. “Thought you could use some coffee.” She finished saying.

“Morning,” Vickie smiled and reaching out to take the cup her new neighbor and friend offered.

“Thank you.” Vickie smiled removing the lid and taking a sip after blowing on it.”

“So, Vickie let me introduce you to Lea and Sam. They live next door and are always eager to lend a helping hand.”

Vickie smiled as she shook their hands. “Nice to meet you.”

“You as well.” Sam said, looking at Vickie then around the room. “so where are we starting?”

“Umm, since boxes are everywhere, and I wrote what was in them and where they go, so I guess start with a box closest to you and go from there.”

“Sounds like a plan. Then we will go to our place and have breakfast or lunch.”

“Ohhh food, that sounds so good.”

After a few more sips of coffee and a walk through of the house they placed their cups on the kitchen counter and headed for a box.

By noon, all of the boxes had been put in the room they were supposed to go into. And Vickie opened the first box and found the coffee cups and glasses. Carefully unwrapping then she placed them in the cupboard.

“Oh the cupboards are so dark, I may get some shelf paper that's more cheerful and bright. But I can get that later. I just want to get as many boxes outta here as I can today.”

“So where did you move from?” Sam asked, grabbing another box. This time it was spices.

“California, Turock specifically.” Vickie smiled. “I was finishing up my Liberal Arts degree in creative writing.”

“I can’t believe we are really getting another writer to join our writing community.” Lea said. “It’s so exciting!”

“Yep, I can’t wait to get settled so I can start writing again.” Vickie smiled. When Janice heard I was ready to graduate and looking for a place, she has been sending me picture after picture of the community and the events that went on here, I couldn’t say no.”

“Well we are happy you are here, and in time you will get to meet everyone.” Sam smiled, grabbing another box. “ Bathroom” She headed into the bathroom and set it down.

“So what type of writing do you do?”

“Kinda depends on my mood, but most of the time upbeat and encouraging. Even fun stories.

“Can’t wait to read something when you are ready.”

“I can’t wait to share them.”

After two hours boxes had been opened and unpacked. And what hadn’t been unpacked, was put in the rooms where they go, or areas where they should go. Like art supplies and books.

“Well I don’t know about you,” Lea said, taking a deep breath, “I’m getting hungry.”

“Yea me too.” Vickie smiled. “We made quite a big dent in the place. Thank you all for your help. I would still be putting boxes in the rooms they are supposed to be in if I were alone.”

“I’m glad Janice told us you were moving in the area. It's always nice to add another creative spirit here.” Sam smiled as they left Vickie’s home and headed to Sam and Lea’s.

“And I know others will stop by once you are settled in for a cuppa and browse the many pieces you have,”

“And I can’t wait to share,”

Chapter 2

After a full day of meeting the neighbors, unpacking and eating, Vickie was now back at her place. Stepping up to the door Vickie slid her key into the lock and turned. Stepping inside there was just a feel of peace and quiet.

“Are you okay?”

“Oh yea,” Vickie stepped in so Janice could enter. “Sorry, I just need to get used to having the entire place to myself. It takes some getting used to after being in a dorm of 20 others.”

“True, let me ask you, have you ever lived alone?”

“No. I went from the family home to the dorm, to here.” Vickie said walking through the path they made to where the table and chairs were set up by the window.

“Well we’ll have to get you comfortable being alone, at night at least. All the bachelorettes had to as well.. But then most of them have roommates as well. Personally I hate living alone, it gets lonely. Nobody to talk to and share the little things with, ya know.”

“All too well.” Vickie smiled. “Shoot right now I don't know where my bedding, bed or pajamas are…’

“Then you will bunk at my place, I have all those things ready and waiting.” Janice smile. “And Gus said he’s bbqing tonight so ..”

“What’s he fixing?”

“Fried eggs and corn beef hash.” Janice said. “I think there’s some hash browns as well in the freezer, so I may add those.”

“Sounds good. I know we just ate but after a few more hours I have a feeling I will be hungry and tired after today.”

“Before long you will have your place set up just how you want it.”

“Yep, just in time to rearrange. hehe.”

“Oh that’s right you do like rearranging.”

“Yep,”

“I’ll have to remember that next time I rearrange.”

Before long, Vickie was grabbing her purse and locking up as she and Janice headed to Janice’s for good food and a bed. That night over dinner Janice and Gus held their glasses up for a toast.

“Welcome to your new home.”

“Cheers,” they said as they all clinked glasses.
