Brief vent poem

The silence following the words I speak
Inflates my chest with thick, heavy air.
The thoughts that felt like bricks,
I throw them over the ship
Only to leave a hole on the way into the water.

Water pours in.
Floods and floods as I clammer downstairs.
Lock the door,
Nail the planks,
Pile the chairs.
Whatever you do—keep the flood inside.

So, I swallow back the rest of my words.
Blink away the tears,
And walk away,
Dragging a sack of bricks along with me.
