Even junk can be an archeologist's dream 300 words

ANCIENT JUNK

It is 3025. The newest archeological site, so recently found by accident, was both fascinating and surprising.

"Professor Bascom! I found something very interesting. Not sure it could be called treasure...” radioed one of his dig team members.

“Tape it anyway, I’ll look at it later this evening,” the excavation leader told her.

Hildegard nodded once briskly and proceeded to record her find.

“Rather mundane to say the least, in fact, I didn’t even think that these existed in ancient times,” she muttered under her breath as she filmed the find.

The day went on and Hildegard didn’t find much else that stirred her interest. A few bits of Silver Birch pottery and some Blue Mountain shards. Regardless, she carefully cleaned and lifted everything to specially made boxes for examination.

In her heart of hearts, she was somewhat disappointed in this site.

“No fabulous gold, bronze or silver artifacts. No jewels either!” she mourned in her mind.

Later when work was over for that day, Bascom ran the tape on his laptop. Of course, everyone crowded around to see. Hildegard got relegated to the back. Being shorter than most, the only view she had was of heads of hair.

“Hildegard, where on earth did you find this? Explain please!”

She tried to push her way to the Professor politely but soon resorted to elbows and knees to force her way to the front.

“Ah there you are! Where did you find this?” he queried, pointing at the screen. She showed him on the map of the site that he always had in front of him.

“It appears to be the food preparation area, so it must be...”

“A junk drawer!” everyone chorused at once.

“The first one I’ve ever found intact. That means it is certainly a treasure!”
