Jim sat, half-drunk, watching the sun sink behind the silhouette of Türkiye across the sea. The sky shifted from pink to lavender and finally to the inky blue of early night. He took a good drink of his Old Fashioned and knew that he'd have to cut back if he ever wanted to get his life together and take writing seriously.
"Did you get the bus tickets on your way up?" said Jessica.
"Yeah, no problem," said Jim. He took out his wallet and showed Jessica the tickets. "All good."
"I like it when you're in control," she said, smiling at him.
"What do you mean?"
"When you have the tickets and the passports. I like it. It's like you're being a man. A proper family man, you know."
"Ah."
"I like it is all."
Jim smiled at Jessica and drained the last of his Old Fashioned. Her dark brown hair swayed gently in the breeze rising from the beach below the balcony of the hotel bar. She looked beautiful and sun-kissed.
"One more drink for the family man, and then we'll head back to the room?" said Jim.
