Life is funny Walking down the street with our dog, I suddenly noticed a crowd around the last house on the block. Thinking maybe a yard sale I kept walking. I love yard sales. As I got closer, I couldn’t see any things in the yard, and the people didn’t seem to be walking to the side, or the back, which also had a fence around it. They were all standing there chatting back and forth and looking at the house. I kept on, though now I just wanted to find out what was going on! I hadn’t paid much attention to the house itself over the year living here. Until we got Pokie, I never even walked around the block, and driving by on the street, you recognize, but don’t really memorize, anything about the houses you pass. Just as I got there, a woman in the crowd yelled “Does anyone have water? My son has to take a pill immediately!” I did, so I yelled “I do!” and everyone moved, so I could get through to her. I pulled out the bottle and she gave her son the pill. Then he passed out entirely! She was on the phone in an instant with the police, and they came quickly and took them to the hospital. Two days later she tracked me down and told me her son was doing well, thanks to my water! It had been scary. She lives on our street too, and over the next few weeks we actually became lifetime friends. Months later I remembered, and asked her about the crowd around the house, what that was about? Apparently, the woman living there was running for mayor, and she won! Who knew I lived six houses away from our town’s Mayor! Life is certainty funny, isn’t it. |
