Door To Door Mayhem

I heard a knock on my door. When I opened it a street person was standing there holding out a comb.

“I want to better myself; would you buy this to help me do that?”

“How much?” I asked.

“Would a dollar be too much?”

Being someone who believes in helping the everyday man, I handed him a fiver and waved away change. The comb was a pretty rainbow color and iridescent. It had the graduated teeth I always liked. I was even happy with its wide comfortable handle.

I closed the door and went back to my home office to continue working at home. I had just sat down, when the doorbell rang. A completely different person stood there.

“Would you care to buy this brush. I am working my way through college,” the woman said.

As a believer in higher education whatever form it takes, I asked the price.

“Would two dollars be too much?”

I gave her a five and accepted the brush. It was pink with boar’s hair bristles, both of which I favor in brushes. Again, I headed back to my desk.

“All I need now is a mirror,” I said to myself.

Twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang and there was a knocking on my door at the same time. When I looked out the peephole, I saw twin girls.

“I suppose you would like me to buy something to support your education?” I said.

“Not at all, we are selling for charity,” they said in one voice.

The mirror was beautiful, swirled pink and white.

“Will ten dollars help your cause?”

“Whatever you can spare,” they chorused.

I handed them the money and closed the door.

“My granddaughter will love this dresser set for her birthday,” I told myself.
