Mary Lou makes a new friend. 300 words |
A Shy One I didn't know her name. But to me, she was a friend from the first day. I thought of her like a daisy, modest and shy. She hid behind a curtain of hair, but I could still see her smile through is spun gold strands. "Hi," I said. Her smile widened and I heard a whispered Hi. I sat down beside her, but not too close. You see, I'm shy with strangers myself, so I know that I don't like to be crowded. "My name is Mary Lou." "My name is Fleur," she said. I dug in my pocket. "I have a scrunchie if you want one." She nodded and I handed her the hair tie. Fleur gathered her hair and put on the scrunchie. Her eyes were hazel and her skin was fair and pale. "Nice to see you, Fleur!" "Nice to be seen." Then it was like a floodgate opened for us. We began to chatter. We talked about everything; what we liked and what we disliked. We laughed at many of the same things too. Then the bell rang that ended recess and we both rushed inside. To my happiness, I found out we were in the same class. When the final bell rang, we ran to the bus together. We sat together. We got off at the same stop. Fleur walked up the road with me and turned onto the same street. "I live here," I told her pointing. "I just moved in across the street," Fleur said pointing across from my house. Needless to say we were fast friends, until Fleur's family moved away. Her father was military, so they moved often. I still miss her when I find something hilarious and want to share it. 300 WORDS DAILY FLASH 7/25/ 2025 |
