Waiting For It

“Is it time yet?” Falina asked Mother Nature, as she peeked in her office door.

“Time for what, my dear?” Mother asked as she looked up from her writing and gestured for her to enter.

“For the days to cool, the bugs to subside and the world to get more colorful,” the fairy replied.

Mother Nature smiled then sighed.

“Not yet, I have so much to do before it is time for fall!”

“This will be my first time to help out with all those fall things we have to do.”

Mother Nature patted her hand.

“You still have training, and it doesn’t start until next month!”

“I just can’t wait! I’m ready now!” Falina insisted.

“Why don’t you go to Colour Selection and work on your mixing for autumn colors?”

“I went yesterday, they weren’t ready for me and sent me away!”

Mother Nature thought for a few minutes, chewing on her feathery pen.

“How about sprucing up the art rooms?”

“I tried, but I got so excited by all the textures, colors and forms, I made the mess even worse. They kicked me out.”

“Oh dear, you are enthusiastic!”

Mother stared thoughtfully at Falina. Then she brightened.

“How is your handwriting? Clear with no errors?”

Falina nodded yes with some reluctance. Writing was not her favorite occupation.

“Take these parchments. Write down what I say, exactly as I say it,” Mother said.

With and inkwell and newly sharpened feathery pen, Falina set to work writing down lists for Mother Nature. What seemed like hours later, Mother’s voice got hoarse, and she called a halt.

“Excellent job, Falina!” she praised as she skimmed the pages of lists.

“I must call the butterflies to deliver these right away!”

“Let me! You should rest your voice.” Falina said.
