Closets And Other Dark Places

“I’m not going in there.”

“Don’t be such a chicken, it’s a closet,” Bay said teasingly to Dyna.

“All right, then you go in.”

“Okay, I will, don’t forget to close the door behind me.”

Dyna closed the door firmly behind Bay and waited. After 30 minutes, she began to panic on his behalf. She threw open the door and looked inside.

No Bay. She began screaming. Within minutes she was on the floor outside the closet in a fetal position, moaning.

Bay slid open the false back that was part of the closet and stepped out. Seeing Dyna in front of the door, he bent down and touched her. She spasmed then lay still.

“Oh Dyna, I didn’t mean it! I didn’t know! Please come back to me,” he sobbed as he turned her over and began CPR.

When the EMTs arrived in answer to his frantic 911 call, there was nothing they could do. The police officer that came with them, sat Bay down ask him some questions.

“Tell me what happened, step by step.”

As Bay did, he took notes and inserted questions as they came to him. Finally, he turned Bay over to the EMTs for a checkup.

“I’ll give you a ride home, sir,” the officer told Bay.

“I’d rather walk,” Bay told him despondently. Nodding, the officer watched him walk away.

As soon as he was out of sight, Bay grabbed a cab and went to the train station. Jumping aboard, he found his seat.

“Always a boyfriend, never a groom! How like me to take the game to the nth degree,” he said to himself. Pulling a notebook, he added Dyna name and address to a list he kept there.

“Where shall I look for my next victim?”
