Yagga gathers her choir for the big night. 300-word Flash |
| The Hags Chorus "Witches of all stages and stripes, draw near! It is time we wrote this year’s flight song !” declared Yagga, the frightful and frightening mistress of the Halloween chorus. Sorcerers, witches, hags and others who may remain nameless, gathered in front of her and took their places in front of each provided chair. Yagga proceeded as she always did, by having each eager vocalist hum a few bars. She did this every year as the choir members voices changed frequently. She was forced to weed out a few every time, as not everyone was a singer, howler or even a hummer. It still left her with a strong group. Her choral members always flew through the Halloween skies in a squadron, singing all the way. “Now girls, please remember to protect your voices after each practice. It’s important you be strong on the night! She answered questions about how to do that, then tapped her magic wand on her music stand. “I’ll sing it through once for everyone. When I raise my wand, follow my lead and do your best.” Yagga cleared her throat and began to sing. She raised her wand, her choir began such a cacophony of noisy music, the woods behind them grew silent. Yagga did a cutting motion with the wand. “Not bad for a first run through. Add more raspiness, Hazel! Sing louder Sybil, and as for you, Drusilla, perhaps you should just hum!” They practiced for many nights, until the big night. Yagga was confident in her group and lead the squad on her purple bristled broom as usual. Those below were trembling at the musical noise and fled into their homes. But still the flight song penetrated the windows, walls and doors. Nobody could escape from it. Yagga was well pleased. |
