Friends, here is something to inspire the kids. Happy reading. |
Ah! My darlings, I’m so glad to see your smiling faces today. You see, I am a big “Jamun” (Indian black plum) tree. I am more than five storeys high, and my branches spread far and wide. They are always covered in a blanket of dense green leaves, giving rise to a shady place underneath. No, no, don’t be afraid! For I am gentle at my heart. So, come near and observe me today. You can pick up so many good things. The very first quality you can detect is my endurance. Be it summer, monsoon or winter, I stand tall and firm in all weather conditions. Strong winds tug at me during the summer storms…incessant rains mercilessly beat down on me during the monsoons…the cold winter leaves its bite marks all over. But here I am standing proud, year after year, for decades together. Then you can always absorb the quality of generosity from me. Throughout the summer, I bear fruits in such abundance, but I give them all away. I don’t keep even one of them with me. Children and adults alike are so fond of my luscious fruits, tickling to the palate and full of juicy goodness! Sadly, so often they damage my branches and thus, hurt me in their eager quest to get at my fruits. Yet I hide my pain and allow them to carry out this plunder. Plus, you can learn about living for the sake of others from me. I love to give shelter to one and all. So many birds call me as their home. So many squirrels are proud to show me as their residential address! So many butterflies, moths and others of their kind take shelter in me. Plus, right since my birth, I have been continuously giving oxygen, something essential for every form of life! In the end, I am a happy tree. Do you know why? Because I know that my life is worthy. Yes, I know that I am living for the sake of others. Ultimately, that is what life is all about. So, my sweethearts, spend more time in Nature: watch me and my fellow trees as often as you can. You will be able to pick up so many valuable lessons, I promise! See you another time. Goodbye and God bless. |
