The meaning of being mean.

“How mean!” Matt stomped his feet. This wasn’t the first time this had happened.

“What do you mean by that? I didn’t have anything to do with it?” Alice put her best surprised look on her face.

“I mean this, sister mine. I haven’t even said what you did yet, and you’re saying you’re innocent. That’s pretty guilty sounding.”

“Oh, I’ve been meaning to tell you kids. I gave the boxes of chocolates away to Samantha Summers for her daughter’s birthday party. You’ll still get some. You’re invited to go to it.” Gretchen nodded at the startled glances her two kids gave each other.

“Now shake hands, make up, and give it a rest until your dad gets home. You know what that means, don’t you?”

They both nodded their heads, touched hands, and went to their rooms in self imposed time out’s. It was the only way they’d be able to keep the peace. If they didn’t, they’d lose every privilege they had.

When their mom had had enough she meant what she said.
