free verse poem of romance in an October setting |
"Catching October Love Notes" We dared to walk barefoot under a turquoise washed sky; twilight, the near end of a slightly warm mid-October day. Our shuffling and crunching through fallen leaves sounded in sync with squirrel chatter and blue-jays busily gossiping. Stopping to rest on a fallen log, we talked of trees and childhood tree houses filled with youthful dreams. As if a string of rubies broke, fallen red berries accented gold leaves strewn about our path. We gazed in awe of rising stars, splattering silver beads above gold trees. A slight moonscape with an orange glow, sat on the edge of Earth. As Moon slowly rose to meet the top of the woods, She appeared draped under a white gauzy shawl, suggesting a bit of Her lunar mystery on this evening with romantic essence in Fall's early night air. Distant whippoorwills exchanged sorrowful secrets. A nearby owl hooted its condolences. With a chill upon us, we donned our boots and sweaters. On a slow walk home, we counted stone-stories gathered in denim pockets. . With trembling hands, I caught love notes dancing on the evening breeze, the breath of your heart's song. 38 line count |
