A lonely candle remembers when times were good

One lonely candle on the windowsill,
Flickers against the winter night,
Its fragile flame a whispered prayer,
For warmth, for peace, for light.

Outside, the world is hushed in snow,
Footsteps swallowed by the cold,
Inside, the rooms remember laughter,
From stories once lovingly told.

The candle stands where voices fade,
Where empty chairs still seem to wait,
Its glow touches names unspoken,
And memories that time can’t break.

It burns for those who cannot come,
For hands we cannot hold,
For holidays that feel much smaller,
As the years grow old.

Yet in its gentle, steady shine,
Lives hope the dark can’t steal;
That love remains, though changed by time,
And grief can slowly heal.

So let it burn through Christmas Eve,
Through every silent ache,
One lonely candle standing guard,
For all our sakes.
