| The Surprise “Don’t go in there…” John said, scaring me. I didn’t even know he was around. “You scared me!” I yelled, as I picked up the grocery bag in car, and turned to go in. “You can’t go in! I just said don’t go in!” John said. Knowing he was getting bored of this “time off,” I thought there must be something in there. Something to scare me with probably. He loves scaring people, though he knows I hate it. It’s been a long week. An unexpected paid vacation, sort of, created by some building problem at his workplace. Everyone still gets paid, and can go back to work tomorrow. But he’s been bored stiff, and I still had to work. I wasn’t in the mood for surprises. I wanted this to be over! I wanted to come home and have that lovely quiet hour to relax before he gets home. “What happened now? I have ice cream in this bag!” I thought I’d get his attention then, but no. “You can’t, It’s dangerous,” Suddenly realizing he wasn’t just fooling around, I got a little nervous myself! “How?” I said in a quiet voice, since I had no clue here. “Is there a problem? Should we call the police?” “No, no” he sniffed. We just have to wait it out…” “Wait what out?” I practically whispered. “I just washed the kitchen floor.” Add confused, I said, “What?” “I was bored and I was getting something to eat and I knocked a dish out of the fridge. It fell and splattered all over the floor! I tried to mop it up but it was sticky. What was that anyway?” “A happy you were going back to work” I said, “I made a surprise pudding.” “I hate pudding.” “Well, I don’t…” |
