| The Story Sitting at the table waiting for my lunch. In my favorite lunch place and I even got the table by the window! That’s something rare since everyone wants it. Though, for the food here, we all always took whatever seat we could get. As I sat there waiting, I was looking out that window. Not for any reason other than I could. Usually, I could only see the other people, eating, or yakking away at whoever would listen. I got enough of that at work. Finally, my lunch came. My favorite, ham and cheese with their “secret” dressing! The waitress set the plate in front of me and turned to walk away. But as she put it down, I could easily see it was not my ham and cheese. “This is wrong” I said, as she started walking away. She ignored me! “Hey!” I yelled, “come back here, this isn’t what I ordered!” She stopped, and looked back at me as if I was silly. She looked at her notes, and at my plate and said, “Are you sure?” in a voice that seemed to be saying ‘you’re wrong mister…’ I shot back, “I think I could remember what I ordered ten minutes ago!” But then one of the cooks came out “Jan, I gave you the wrong plate!” Jan looked like she wanted to spank him. “I’m sorry,” she said to me, but in a snotty voice. And she reached for the plate. And I reached for it too, and the whole plate when flying off the table. Then she started laughing! And I was so angry! But suddenly I started laughing too. And that my young fellow, was the first time I met your mother. Jeremy, my six-year-old, laughed. “I love that story!” he said, “tell me again!” |
