I Love Flies

There was a fly in my kitchen. I keep it clean; but I’m a terrible cook. However, I always have grocery store sweets around. Unfortunately, I’ve always been, a sugar-a-holic.

Flies don’t really bother me much, but I didn’t want the little critters landing on my sweets! (I honestly don’t know if it’s the possible germs, or that I don’t want to share…) Never-the-less, I wanted to catch this one and get it out!

I had recently bought a grocery store bakery cake. I usually eat cookies and candies, but this cake was so cute, and looked yummy! It looked like a little mountain, four layers and each one up smaller than the last. On top, a little “cabin” made of cookies!

Yes, too much for just me. So, I had invited my niece and nephew to dinner to make it fit in. The dinner was just pizza, delivered by a pizza guy who came here so often we knew each other by first name…

When Jim arrived with the pizza, I yelled to him to come in. Mostly because I had just caught the fly, in my bare hands, and couldn’t open the door. Jim opened it, and I flew out, tossing the fly up, and slamming the door so it wouldn’t fly back in!

Turning back, there was Jim, in the doorway, chomping on an apple, and laughing.

“Is that my apple?” I asked, confused.

“Was that a fly?” he asked. And then we both burst out laughing.

Suddenly the kids arrived, and Jim was on his supper break, so we invited him in. Jim and I found out something that night that we hadn’t realized in the four years we’d known one another.

We got married three months later. And that’s why I love flies.
