This mystery I share,
Of flowers so fair,
Atop my table they stay.
Brought home one week from today,
From a dance I had gone to one day.
A spray of water, a loving stare is
all that is needed to keep them fair.
Still I know their ending time is near.
Would that the scented petals remain
as pretty as I see them here,
with just that spray of water
and my tender loving care.
Here's another version I cannot for one, dispel.
I cannot believe the flowers brought
home from a dance last week,
still remain so fresh and neat.
All I gave them was a spray of
water and a loving stare.
Their scented petals remain so sweet.
I know their time draws near,
the flowers will wilt and die.
Would that I could with TLC,
that splash of water and loving stare,
keep them fresh and fair for as
long as I remain near.
