a day in the life of a mannic depressive

In a box I seem to be,
full of fear, who will help me?

Out of the box fancy and free,
gardening, laughing, taking good care of me.

Against a wall, confused and trapped,
trying to claw my way back like a lost frightened cat.

Looking through the the glass to the other side,
life is wonderful, fears put aside,
a sense of grandiosity, a sense of pride.

A sense of well being, a feeling of being strong,
love for my children, feeling I belong,
though this feeling doesn't last to long.

Words that escape me, strange thoughts in my head,

Sometimes it feels like i'm dangling on a thread.

Two hours later, life is wonderful again,
doesn't this sound exhausting, life in my pen!

Children are home now, demanding as hell,
but it keeps my mind focused, safe, and well.

Now time for dinner, a gourmet meal I make,
but my children would rather I had served them a cake,
Sometimes all my ignored hard work is hard to take.

Now time for homework, here I'm the lesser,
though my children expect me to be a college professor.

Time now for showers, jammies and brushing of teeth,
time now for bed, wonder what dreams they will keep?

My time to clean dishes, then my time to relax,
but my mind starts running like the constant dripping of wax!

I lay in my bed, exhaustion fills my head,
yet another nights sleep interrupted by dread.

I lay in the dark, wondering what tomorrow might bring,
when deep down inside I know it will be the same old thing!

I'm glad for my strengths, my focus, my pride,
life IS wonderful with fears put aside.
