Fathers, Sons, and Cars |
Recently my best friend returned home from Boston for the graduation of a friend. Due to temporary financial constraints he opted to rely upon his parents car to get around rather than get a rent-a-car. A day or two prior to the graduation there was a heavy thunderstorm that blackened the midday sky and turned some of the smaller streets into rapidily flowing rivers. By mid afternoon the rains ended and the sun was out again. With that my friend decided to venture out. Before leaving his father caught him and asked, "Will you be home before dark"? To which my friend answered, "probably not." His father responded, "you should come home before it gets dark. I believe the heavy rains today may have damaged one of the headlights. When it rains as hard as it did today sometimes a headlight can fill with water and blow out. You may have an accident driving with just one headlight after dark." My friend responded, "Daddy, what makes you think one of the headlights is out?" He answered, "just a feeling." My friend looked at his father a moment then said, "I don't know much about cars but I think they make them to withstand rain nowadays, Daddy." |
