What a relationship! He only showed up in my dreams...
|
You come to me in my dreams. Every night, we are in a different scene, a changed locale. I particularly like the dream in which we met. I was nervous and tired, having cleaned and cooked all day amid forays into my closet looking for the perfect outfit to greet you in. It wasn’t in my closet, so I settled for my comfiest jeans and shirt. If I can’t be beautiful, might as well be comfortable. The time of your expected arrival drew near. I darted from window to window, peering out the curtains in a futile effort to see and not be seen. Suddenly, a different car pulled up and there you were. And, there I was, green curtain pulled to the right, staring right at you. My mouth was probably hanging open or something else equally stupid. You looked right at me, smiled, and all my fears fled. I ran to the door, opened it, and there you were. God, you’re a beautiful man, I think for the umpteenth time! You’re so big and strong. When you smile, your eyes twinkle like dark stars and, just then, the wind picks up and lifts your ponytail off your neck like an adorable flag. Laughing, I bring you into my apartment and start talking nonstop and darting around. I want to show you everything dear to me all at once. Suddenly, your hand takes mine and you pull me close. We gaze longingly into each other’s eyes for what seems like an eternity before your head dips low and you claim my mouth in a searing kiss of hot, fiery passion. How I manage to remain standing, I’ll never know because my bones have melted. Body trembling, I lead you into the kitchen where dinner, music, and a very fine wine awaits. I wake with a smile on my lips and a song in my heart. Couple of nights later, after a particularly stressful day, I fall onto my bed in an exhausted heap. Snuggling deeper into my pillows for security and comfort, I fall asleep and dreams of you begin anew. This time, we are outside on a beautiful spring day at the base of a mountain. Not a huge mountain, mind you, but a gorgeous one!! Alive with a rainbow of color from the trees and wildflowers in full majestic bloom! The scene is absolutely breathtaking! We had been walking, hand in hand, along a dirt road. When I saw all this beauty before me, I ran to embrace it, tumbling to the ground, amid the violets, daisies, grasses, in an ungraceful, laughing heap. My senses are overwhelmed with the sights and smells. Suddenly, I hear your throaty laughter nearby. I have only a second to react before you are upon me, pinning me, giggling, on this beautiful carpet of nature. There, we are carefree as teenagers as we kiss, snuggle, tickle, and tease. I wake in the morning to the sound of birds chirping outside my window and I remember our mountain excursion fondly. Months pass. No one invades my dreams. I sleep, sometimes fitfully and sometimes deeply. I long for you to return to my dreams! Asleep, shrouded in my dreams, I am still lonely. Loneliness is an awful thing… |
