It raced through the Andromeda galaxy
Veering past the constellation of Capricorn
Arching over the Alpha Centauri
A spec of intelligent light
Travelling fourteen billion years
Past supernovas, collapsing stars
Escaping the dark attraction
of a myriad black holes
Dipping below the Big Dipper
Bending past the Sun
Swinging over the moon
into the prism on the shelf
next to the fishbowl
in our living room
where Danny the dog was peacefully asleep.

Majestic Vibgyor scattered
Refracting the ancient white-light
Visitor from the dawn of time,
forming a garland on the ceiling.
Beyond the prism there was light
Beyond light there was life
Ancient ultraviolet waves danced unseen
Peaceful infrared rays penetrated unseen
Excited radio waves carrying the colors
of exploding supernovas, brought unseen
right into our living room
bringing celestial beauty into our lives
For a while.

We withdrew into the routine
of our busy lives weaving busy dreams
Touched a little by the mystery
of the ancient universe.
Then it was gone, as suddenly as it had come
Without a warning.
As we slept in the quiet darkness of the night
Danny the dog, wagged his bushy tail
and with a sparkle in his eyes
lit up the universe in a fishbowl.
He sat there wide awake
sharing thought bubbles
with the fish
Unweaving the gift of a rainbow.
